gotokuji & jindaiji

From where we live, it is about an hour and 15 minute ride to Miyanosaka.

We took the Tokyu Ikegami line, transferred at Hatanodai, switched to the Tokyu Oimachi line and rode it to Futako-Tamagawa.

At Futako-Tamagawa, we transferred to the Tokyu Denenchofu line getting off at Sangenchaya.

At Sangenchaya we changed to the Tokyu Setagaya line and got off at Miyanosaka.

The Tokyu Setagaya line was cool to ride, I think this is what they call "light rail".

From Miyanosaka, it is about a 10 minute walk to Gotokuji.

We thought there would be more of these maneki neko around the property but there is only a small area for them.

Still it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and are thinking of revisiting in the Fall when the leaves change color.

From Gotokuji it is about another hour to Jindaiji.

We caught the Tokyu Setagaya line from Miyanosaka to Shimotakaido.

Transferred to the Keio line and rode it to Tsutsujigaoka.

They have frequent buses to Jindaiji from here.

The bus ride is about 20 minutes.

When we arrived there were tons of people mostly standing in line for Jindaiji soba, the popular food in the area.

We decided to have a Nozawana oyaki and some warm senbei (akajiso & kuroshichimi) to tide us over until the lunch crowd died out.

There are several temples on the Jindaiji property and we were also able to see some national treasure statues.

As we were planning to leave, we noticed that one soba shop's line was moving quickly, so we stood in line.

Within minutes we were ordering and then finding a seat inside.

Lunch of tempura zaru soba (cold noodles) and sharing a craft beer (Jindaiji beer) hit the spot.

Prices were pricey as this is technically a tourist spot...craft beer was 600 yen, tempura zaru soba was 1100 each.

Satoshi mentioned that the portions were "cute".

The sun has been blazing and the air quality has been really gross.

Still, it was a nice way to spend the first day of Golden Week.

sounds like you guys already got the rail system figured out well with all the train switches(!), but with the terrible air, I give you credit for getting out and about.

sorry Jalna!

Rowena, we base the air quality on whether we can see Mt Fuji or not in the morning...

Thanks Kirk :)

Take care everyone.
